These live music gigs will become a regular event at the University College - the idea is that any bands that wish to audition to get onto the degree course can take part in the other planned monthly gigs as support acts.
This programme of study will encompass the many different facets of live music, appealing to those with an interest in live music performance, technology, distribution and management.
Aside from the obvious creative opportunities offered to performers there are a myriad of other career paths associated with the staging of a live performance event, ranging from the technologists who engineer, light and record the event through to those who organise, publicise, manage and exploit its earning potential.
This programme will make use of a purpose built studio space which can be transformed into different performance environments, ranging from a small classical music venue, a jazz club, a dance music venue or a multimedia art gallery. This space also provides recording facilities and students will have access to a suite of digital workstations to undertake their work.
Tim Sayer, the Programme Leader for the course began his career teaching in London after gaining his 1st degree in Music at Dartington College. Since then, he has spent over 14 years teaching digital media, programming and creative technologies at UCP Marjon. As well as this, Tim has spent his spare time playing trumpet for artists such as Otis Grand, Eddie Floyd, the Levellers, Joey the Lips and Rhythm Machine. He has also written music for the BBC.
Tim said:
“I am so excited about the new unique Live Music degree as the programme encompasses the life skills, technical communications and social skills required to work in the many areas within this industry. I look forward to meeting the students who will start in 2009”
