Released: 09.12.08
As part of the module Coaching Theory and Methods the following well known sports coaches were invited to talk to students at UCP Marjon, studying for degrees in Applied Sport Science and Coaching, Coach and Physical Education, and Outdoor Adventure. They included:
Andy Banks – Plymouth Diving Club (coach of Olympians Tom Daley and Tonia Couch)
Gary Stronach – Head coach of BBL’s Plymouth Raiders
Robin Brew - Beijing Paralympic Games - Coaching Staff , GB team 'European Open water swimming Cup' - Head Coach, Director of Swimming at Kelly College
Gareth Long, Lecturer in Coach and Physical Education said:
“Andy, Gary and Robin were excellent at helping our students relate the coaching theory that they have studied to the reality of coaching elite performers. Their coaching experiences at the very highest level not only inspired the students but demonstrated how the pathway to the top for a coach is often as difficult as it is for a performer. The coaches’ honest and revealing answers to the student’s questions highlighted the importance of a well formulated personal coaching philosophy and the need to seek out and make the most of new learning opportunities.”
