UCP Marjon in Top Ten for Youth and Community Course

Released: 30.09.09

The BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work programme at UCP Marjon has again been awarded the highest category ‘satisfactory with distinction’ in the National Youth Agency Annual Monitoring Report, 2009.

Out of 67 UK programmes evaluated – 14% were awarded the top category and UCP Marjon came 9th out of 67 which places us within the top 10!

The NYA said;
‘This programme is very strong all round, showing particular strength in the focus on professional formation and the overall management of the programme.

The curriculum is praised by the external Examiner, who sees the programme as giving an excellent education in youth work.  The standards are viewed as above average compared to other similar programmes and this is reflected in student satisfaction and achievement.   Of particular note is the commitment to professional formation and ensuring the programme stays in step with current policy and service delivery issues.  The links to the field are very good and supervisor feedback supports that relationships are positive and that  the processes around placements are clear and effective in ensuring the best experience for students.’

Sue Cooper, Course Leader said:
'We are delighted to be awarded the 'distinction' category, and particularly pleased that once again our relationships with the organisations and agencies that provide placement learning experiences for our students has been noted.  Youth and Community work is going through radical change with the move towards integrated youth services and keeping our programme up to date with this is challenging - but clearly a challenge we are continuing to meet.  UCP Marjon offers students an ideal start to a rewarding career in youth work.'
