Daniel Gareth Joel is a semi professional surfer and sales rep for a surf company.
Daniel graduated in 2002 having studied Sports science and coaching with education studies, he currently lives in Porthleven Cornwall.
Why did you go on to higher education?
With a view to becoming a PE teacher

Best things; Meeting new people, many, many fond memories. Sporting events, socializing, cheap booze. As well as gaining invaluable knowledge in chosen area of studies

Describe your current role.
When not selling new product for Etnies surf/skate wear I’m surfing big, perfect waves around the globe.
How did your time at Marjon help your career?
It helped me immensely with my self confidence. It also improved my social and communication skills. My knowledge in fitness, training principals, nutrition and exercise etc has really helped with my surfing career.
What’s the professional achievement you’ve been most proud of since graduating?
Being the first British person ever to be officially invited into the prestigious “Billabong XXL big wave contest” This is where US$50,000 is awarded to the surfer who is judged to have ridden the biggest wave of the year wherever in the world that may be.

What are your main hobbies or interests?
Outside of surfing I enjoy socialising, playing the guitar and gardening
What are your plans for the next few years (career-wise and other if relevant)?
To focus on my big wave riding and to continue submitting viable photographic entries into the “Billabong XXL”
