PGCE Secondary Mathematics
Recommended preparation for interview
In order to prepare for the interview, all applicants for mathematics are asked to:
- Familiarise themselves with the National Curriculum for KS3/KS4 Mathematics:
- http://curriculum.qcda.gov.uk/key-stages-3-and-4/subjects/key-stage-4/mathematics/index.aspx
- http://curriculum.qcda.gov.uk/key-stages-3-and-4/subjects/key-stage-3/mathematics/Functional-skills-in-mathematics/index.aspx
From this preparation, applicants are asked to talk about one or two areas regarding teaching and learning in mathematics which they think are of special interest in a 5 minute presentation. Unfortunately, within the remit of the interview, there is no guarantee of OHT/Powerpoint facilities, but applicants are expected to present as if there were, and provide the two Tutors attending with copies of slides etc. This will be delivered to a maximum of 5 participants (other PGCE candidates).
Applicants will also be asked to discuss in an informal way with the interviewers how a resource provided for them could be used in a mathematics lesson.
You should also request verification of your classroom experience from the school on headed paper to present at interview.
