Employment-Based Study - Where your workplace becomes your classroom
The following programmes are subject to validation but are expected to be in place for September 2012.
UCP Marjon continues to strive to be innovative in course design and work extensively with employers and stakeholders to enhance the quality of professional practice and to add real value for career aspirations. We have developed a range of Foundation Degrees that integrate practice (work) based learning with university level study, enabling participants to progress both professionally and academically.
A substantial part of your course is delivered in your workplace. These programmes go beyond traditional work placements and work experience, which are standard on most of our courses. Instead, workplace learning is an integral part of studying itself and you will need the support of your employer, and a work-based supervisor/mentor, to support your learning on the programme. This creates a genuine three-way relationship between student, practice setting, and the University College, adding a richness to learning and practice. Although often you will be studying on a full time basis (completing the same number of credits as a traditional full time student), the time you actually spend on campus feels much more like a part-time course, with carefully designed intensive group learning sessions and individual tutoring, scheduled to fit around work and social commitments.
We offer a range of work-based study Foundation Degrees designed and delivered in partnership with employers to develop your career in:
FdA Child Centred and Therapeutic Practice
UCAS Code: tbc
This programme is for all those wanting to develop specialist knowledge, skills and reflective capacity for improving child centred and therapeutic practice with children and young people. It is designed to meet the needs of those in a wide variety of roles working directly with children and young people (or managing/supervising this work). Successful completion of the programme allows progression to BA (Hons) Children and Young People.
FdA Children, Parenting and Communities
UCAS Code: tbc
This programme is designed to meet the needs of family/parenting support workers, parenting practitioners and, more broadly, those who work in a range of family and community development roles. Successful completion of the programme allows progression to BA (Hons) Community and Society or BA (Hons) Children and Young People.
FdA Early Years
UCAS Code: tbc
This programme is designed to meet the needs of Early Years practitioners across the full range of settings. We work extensively with the Early Years sector in the South West and our programmes are regarded as some of the best quality in the country. We are also one of the few national providers of Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) with government funding currently to 2015, so successful completion of the Foundation Degree may bring opportunities to progress not only to BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (top-up) but also, potentially, to achieving EYPS.
FdA Health and Social Care
UCAS Code: tbc
This programme is designed to meet the needs of those working in a range of health and social care settings, providing support to diverse groups of users eg (or managing/supervising this work) – the course allows you to focus your learning, and develop reflective practice, in your own area of work. Successful completion of the programme might bring you additional career (eg management) opportunities in your practice sector, and also progresses to BA (Hons) Health and Social Welfare.
FdA Learning Support
UCAS Code: tbc
This programme is designed to meet the needs of those working in learning support roles particularly in schools, but also in similar (or specialist) settings. The programme utilises an extensive range of University College expertise, for example, in relation to supporting the learning needs of those with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Asperger’s Syndrome, and in relation to creative and effective behaviour management. Successful completion includes progression routes to BA (Hons) Education Studies and BA (Hons) Primary Education.
