• Degree (not necessarily related to early childhood), and you may have some limited experience of working with young children. Interest in working in early years settings, show potential for leadership in the sector, and also be medically fit to work with young children
• GCSE Maths and English (grade C or above, one required on entry the second to be achieved before final assessment)

Overview:

This programme offers you the opportunity to achieve a postgraduate certificate in early years and also progress directly to assessment for Early Years Professional Status. This is known as the ‘full route’ to EYPS and placements are integrally linked to the programme; the full route is for graduates who are potential future leaders in the early years sector. Attainment of Early Years Professional Status will allow you to manage a Children’s Centre or a full day-care setting. Module Information:

Module 1: Critical Reflections on the Developing Child
You will reflect on how children learn and develop and investigate what influences and shapes children as they grow. Different theories of child development will be evaluated.

Module 2: Enabling Young Children to Learn through play
An in-depth debate around children’s play, this module includes issues of diversity and inclusion. Equal opportunities will be discussed and how these issues influence the delivery of services to young children.

Module 3: Pedagogy and the Early Years Curriculum
You will look at how the personal development and achievement of all young children is effectively promoted through the implementation of the early years foundation stage. You will develop your understanding of sustained shared thinking and how this supports children’s learning.

Module 4: Leadership and Management in Early Years Settings
This module looks at developing the leadership and management skills needed to promote effective practice within settings. Using situations from your placement, you will be encouraged to develop critical insights into your working practice to inform decision-making and to support others.

Fees and Funding:

There is no tuition fee.  You will receive a bursary of £5000.

Career Opportunities:

Early years professionals are key to raising the quality of early years provision.  They are ‘change agents’ to improve practice.  They will lead practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage, support and mentor other practitioners and model the skills and behaviours that safeguard and support children.
