Our typical minimum entry requirements for applicants with A levels/AS levels/BTEC is 200 points. In addition to University College entry requirements you will need:
GCSE Requirements
In addition to the general entry requirements, you must have grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE examinations or equivalent qualifications. If you are applying for Primary programmes, you must have a grade C or above at GCSE (or equivalent) in at least one science subject. Please note that Level 2 Key Skills in Application of Numbers and Communication or Certificates in Adult Literacy or Numeracy, are not sufficient to meet the entry requirements to a BEd programme.

You will be required to:
Year 1
In the first year, modules focus on child development, early reading and professional values, as well as knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. You will learn how to plan, organise, manage and teach whole classes, groups and individual children. The modules are delivered through school based instruction and distance learning materials. You will also work alongside Primary student teachers in the University College. You are assigned an experienced school-based mentor to support you through the course.
Year 2
In the second year you will deepen your knowledge and understanding of Early Years philosophy and how to provide a high quality, inclusive and challenging education for young children. With this aim, modules focus on the role of play in developing children as learners and inclusive practice. You will undertake a 10 week assessed teaching placement in a nursery setting.
Year 3
In the third year you will develop your knowledge further and undertake a dissertation which will give you the opportunity to research an Early Years issue in depth. You will also complete a final assessed teaching placement.
The course gives you expertise in teaching children from 3 to 8 years old. Graduates work in nursery settings and primary schools.
