When you obtain your visa for coming to the UK you should be given a visa that will cover the entire time you will be studying here. If you have not been given enough time then you should try and change this BEFORE you arrive in the UK . If your visa does not cover the full length of your stay then you will have to extend it once you are in the UK. There will be a cost for this. If this happens then we will help you with the paperwork to submit your request for a visa extension.
You may also want to extend your visa at the end of your course if you decide to do further study.
More information about immigration and visa renewal can be found at the UKCISA Website.
Obtaining a visa for another country
If you already know that you would like to visit some other countries during your stay in Britain it is a good idea to try and obtain the correct visa BEFORE you arrive in the UK. This will save a lot of time and work once you are here. If you plan to visit Europe then the most common visa is called a Schengen Visa.
The Schengen visa should be applied for at the consulate of the country which is the main destination for the first trip. On a tour of Europe this would be the country where the most number of nights are spent. If there is no main destination then it is processed by the first country of entry. Once the visa is issued by any state it is valid for all the other Schengen states as well.
To apply you must have a UK residence permit (student visa, work permit etc) issued for more than six months and it must have more than three months remaining on it after the end of the trip (6 months for Italy, 1 month for France). Visitors to the UK cannot normally apply.
The processing time is normally just a few days, but can be 2 weeks for certain nationals and some consulates in London run appointment schemes which can take many weeks at busy times.
