Introduction
Research is regarded as integral to the academic work of UCP Marjon, underpinning high quality learning and teaching and helping to sustain a community of self-critical learners and teachers. The Research Strategy is an inclusive one, stimulating research and scholarly activity across the campus and emphasising knowledge transfer and exchange, professional practice and the development of subjects and disciplines. UCP Marjon has therefore embraced an inclusive definition of research, which encompasses research in all its forms.
Research Degree Awards
UCP Marjon currently offers MPhil and PhD programmes awarded by the University of Exeter. Students are jointly supervised by tutors at UCP Marjon and the University of Exeter. The procedures for postgraduate students registered on these programmes can be accessed below.
Currently, postgraduate research students are studying mainly in the areas of International Education, Theology and Philosophy and English, but other research clusters and presently under consideration.
Research Expertise
The main areas of staff research expertise include Community Studies, Education, English, English Language Studies, Film and Television Studies, Geography, Information Technology, Philosophy and Ethics, Public Relations, Sociology, Speech and Language Therapy and Sports.
Research Assessment Exercise (RAE)
For the 2008 RAE, the University College made a submission to five units of assessment: Geography and Environmental Studies; Education; Sports-Related Studies; English Language and Literature; and Philosophy. All five submissions contained research that was considered to be 'internationally recognised', with Education and Philosophy also submitting some 'internationally excellent' research.
